Each Current Event focuses on different organizations around Orlando.

Spring 2017 Current Event Organizations

For our Current Event on April 8th, 2017, the four organizations we will be serving with are:

Orlando Children’s Church

Orlando Children’s Church is a Central Florida non-profit, Christian outreach ministry that brings children living in poverty together to deliver them hope. OCC busses in over 400 children to attend Saturday Church each week where they are fed, worship together, attend a small group, create a craft, and enjoy some fun & games. At our Current Event we will be volunteering with the children, leading them during these activities.

Quest

Quest is an incorporation that supports Central Floridians with developmental disabilities by offering choices and opportunities to live, learn, work and play. Their mission is to build communities where people with disabilities can achieve their goals. Quest provides behavioral therapy and programming to people with disabilities, helping them to achieve their dreams of going to school, having a job, living on their own and experiencing summer camp. We served at Quest during a previous Current Event and had such a great experience that we were asked to come back! We will serve Quest this time by helping to set up their summer camp and do some outdoor work.

United Against Poverty

United Against Poverty is formally known as Community Food and Outreach Center. This organization helps those in need to break free from poverty by offering hunger relief, crisis care, transformative education, and employment training opportunities. We have been invited back to serve with UP after we had a great experience at a previous Current event. We will be restocking shelves and cleaning.

Christian Sharing Center

The Christian Sharing Center is a church-based organization that assists the poor through financial assistance, counseling and training, medical assistance, and supplies. We are excited to serve at the Christian Sharing Center again, and help sort through given supplies, like clothing, at their warehouse.

Fall 2016 Current Event Organizations

For our Current Event on October 29th, 2016, the four organizations we will be serving with are:

Clean the World

Clean the World is an organization that collects and recycles soap and other hygiene products to send to people in need across the world. We will be helping to either sort hygiene products or clean them.

New Hope for Kids

New Hope for Kids has been helping Central Florida children in need since 1996. Their purpose is to bring hope, healing and happiness to children and families suffering from grief, loss or life-threatening illnesses.

Hubbard House

Designed and built as a "home-away-from-home" for families of patients from outside the Orlando area, the Hubbard House can help restore a sense of calm during troubled times of illness or injury. Working with Orlando Health since opening in January 1994, the Hubbard House has served thousands of families facing the extra burden of finding convenient and affordable temporary lodging in times of crisis.

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization whose vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

At the Current Event we will be working on a build site. **This event is a longer event and volunteers will stay at the site until 2:00pm. We will provide snacks and waters at Langford Park for you to bring, and lunch will be pizza delivered to the site location.

Quest

Quest is an incorporation that supports Central Floridians with developmental disabilities by offering choices and opportunities to live, learn, work and play. Their mission is to build communities where people with disabilities can achieve their goals.

Quest provides behavioral therapy and programming to people with disabilities, helping them to achieve their dreams of going to school, having a job, living on their own and experiencing summer camp. We served at Quest during a previous Current Event and had such a great experience that we were asked to come back! We will serve Quest this time by helping with outdoor work.

Harbor House is an organization that seeks to eliminate domestic violence by providing safety, shelter, counseling, education, and justice for abuse survivors. At Harbor House we will be doing outdoor work.

Harvest Time International

Harvest Time International is a charitable Non-Profit Organization meeting the needs of children and families worldwide. Harvest Time provides programs for hunger, health, housing and helps in Central Florida, the United States and the World through its resources and collaborations. Fall 2015 Current Event Organizations

For our Current Event on October 10th, 2015, the four organizations we served with were:

Grace Landing

Grace Landing is an organization that seeks justice for homeless and fostered youth. They provide the physical, social, mental, and spiritual needs of young men and help them gain the skills to be good citizens in the community. Grace Landing provides a stable home environment where young adults can feel safe and secure, where they learn how to manage money, develop life and coping skills, receive counseling and referral to necessary supports, services, and health care.

At the Current Event we will be painting the exterior of one of the group homes and also doing some yard work and clean up.

The Mustard Seed

The Mustard Seed is a furniture and clothing bank that provides for individuals who have suffered disaster or personal tragedy, allowing them to achieve restored dignity and self-esteem, and to move ahead and take control of their futures.

Current Ministries has served with The Mustard Seed before and we have been personally asked to come back and work with them again. We will be breaking down mattresses and also sorting clothing.

Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a private, nonprofit organization that collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 550 feeding partners in Central Florida. Second Harvest’s mission is to create hope and nourish lives through a powerful hunger relief network, while multiplying the generosity of a caring community.

At the Current Event we will be sorting food donations.

Green Up Orlando

Green Up Orlando is a program that helps beautify Orlando through cleanups of parks, schools, neighborhoods, and other public areas. We will be cleaning and landscaping a local park. If you were at our Fall Current Event, we also worked with Green Up to clean up a different park and had great success.

Orlando Rescue Mission

The Orlando Union Rescue Mission is one of Central Florida's oldest and largest homeless service providers. The Mission provides for immediate physical needs, including food, clothing and shelter. Their programs are designed to lead the homeless to permanent independence built upon a personal relationship with Christ. We will be sorting food cans at the Orlando Rescue Mission.
